We like making stuff at NSF and when one of our creative researchers and budding directors Emilio came to us saying he wanted to make a spec film for Fujifilm and “here’s the treatment” – we took one read and said, “ok do it”.

We already knew from his short films Emilio had the skills, so we made a few suggestions and gave him a budget and the rest was up to him and junior producer Jack Cain. All overseen by creative director Tareq and EP Richard Martin.

Emilio’s storytelling knowhow and wonderful eye for detail came to the fore and we think he has made a truly lovely and evocative film about street photography. Emilio’s brother Gabriel wrote and played the music for the film. Emilio also sourced an incredible VO taken from a Joel Meyerowitz photography masterclass.

When Sir Simon Rattle was on Desert Island Discs, he said his luxury would be an Italian coffee maker, so that he could make himself a really good cappuccino in the morning. (Not sure where he planned on plugging it in or getting the milk, but that’s another story). Sir Simon, apparently, loves the combo of the strong espresso saying “wake up immediately!” , and the soothing milk saying “but you know, it’s all going to be alright”.

We know what he means, and Stuart Douglas’s film for Nespresso, which encourages us to release our inner barista, beautifully captures a little bit of that vibe. And, mercifully, not a Clooney in sight.

 

For some of us the bicycle has been a constant feature and friend throughout our lives, from the first giddy taste of freedom 2 wheels gave us to the trusty steed that we use to commute. Backies with our mates and hopefully that really cute girl/boy that we have been plucking up the courage to ask out for ages.

Being part of the summer gang that patrol the area on increasingly pimped up choppers, strength in numbers, to the lone adventures across grassy fields where the wind blew in our hair and we felt so alive.

Jespers Ericstam’s latest mini masterpiece for HSBC combines all these elements and so many more in a beautiful story of how the humble bicycle really is the way to travel. Emotions and memories are evoked in the way we have come to expect from Jesper’s gentle knowing and wonderfully poignant cinematic style.

See if you can spot at least a nod to one of the most iconic bicycle scenes ever made.

This is Liz Muprhy’s latest, for children’s charity SOS. A simple story about helping other people, beautifully told.

We all love mob movies and how many of us have wanted to have that hard man reputation and stood in front of the mirror rehearsing wise-guy lines to an imaginary foe, and starting slicking back our hair, wearing more black clothes, sticking a toothpick between our lips, affected a Brooklyn accent in Pret a Manger and………oh so just me then ah – awkward.

Well we can all enjoy our mob fantasies with Kai Schonrath’s second film for Gillette. The Gillette mobsters are up to their usual shenanigans. This time gathering for a critical a handover in a remote pigeon shit encrusted warehouse. The tension is palpable as is the smell of guano and cheap aftershave. Kai’s cinematic filmmaking skills are to the fore as he ratchets up the face-off between the two opposing gangs of mobsters. The casting is impeccable and the denouement typical of Kai’s ability to turn a situation on its head and engage the audience brilliantly.

Olly Goodrum’s latest film is for the RNLI – an awareness campaign that in the most visceral and intense way tells us how to survive falling into dangerously cold water. Olly’s film does not shy away from the reality and is both shocking and instructive.

This film is also the result of some serious production planning, courtesy of Olly’s producer brother Luke. A stellar team, was assembled, of underwater camera operators, stunt directors and a brave cast. All of whom were plunged into the D Stage water tank at Warner Brothers Studios.
